THE EVOLUTION
1980
Incorporation, Mumbai
The move: the Mahalaxmi factory
Laxmi Distributors Pvt. Ltd. is incorporated on 15th January 1980 in Mumbai. The cigarette factory at Mahalaxmi Bridge Arcade — purchased from the Gamadia Group — marks the group's first move to ownership and manufacturing. This was the moment LVIL's manufacturing DNA was formed. Master Tobacco Company takes shape here.
1984
The boldest pivot
Hotel Rama International, Aurangabad — a completely different world
In 1984, the group acquired Hotel Rama International in Aurangabad from the Ghai Group. This was not an incremental move. It was a leap into a completely different sector — asset-heavy, service-led, people-intensive. No manufacturing playbook applied. The decision was led by Mr. Anil Agarwal and with ITC's association , and it reflected a defining quality: LVIL would move beyond its comfort zone when the asset, the partner, and the long-term opportunity all aligned. The group backed Aurangabad before the city was an obvious industrial or tourism destination. Under ITC's WelcomHotel brand management — making it the earliest ITC-managed property in India — the hotel grew into the city's preeminent five-star address.
1993
Soybean and a new identity
Laxmi Solvex is born. The company is renamed.
The group enters soybean extraction and refining in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh — India's soybean belt. Initial crushing capacity: 500 MT per day. The decision is structurally sound: domestic edible oil demand is growing, the location has road and rail connectivity, and the industrial operating thesis mirrors what the group has already proven in tobacco manufacturing. That same year, Laxmi Distributors Pvt. Ltd. was formally renamed Laxmi Ventures (India) Limited — a name that reflects what the company had become: a multi-vertical enterprise, not a trading house.
2000s–2010s
Scale, professionalisation, and the next generation
Laxmi Solvex expands from 500 MT to 1,500 MT per day — tripling in capacity. A new 1,000 MT generation plant is commissioned with Hypro equipment, bubble cleaning systems, and hull separation technology. The group's operating systems are upgraded to institutional-grade standards. Professional governance frameworks are adopted having GMP+ certification. . The second generation begins the structured handoff to the third.
2023
Rama Tower
228 rooms in 14 months: a statement of operational confidence
WelcomHotel Rama International completes the Rama Tower expansion — scaling from 136 to 228 rooms in just twelve months. This is not a routine hotel addition. It is a complex, live-asset expansion executed without disruption to ongoing operations, in partnership with ITC WelcomHotel. It is one of the most visible demonstrations of LVIL's operating capability.
2024 onwards
Mr. Akash Agarwal leads LVIL into its next chapter
A 2 MWp solar plant is commissioned in Nashik-Sinnar under an open-access model, powering hotel operations and launching the group's renewable energy agenda. Mr. Akash Agarwal assumes the chairmanship — bringing a third generation of Agarwal leadership to a group that now spans agri-processing, hospitality, manufacturing, and clean energy. The mandate is clear: continuity of values, acceleration of ambition.
HOW WE OPERATE
01
Quality is never outsourced.
When you work with ITC — one of India's most demanding institutional partners — quality is not optional and it is not delegable. That lesson was internalised permanently.
It deepened in Master Tobacco Company's precision manufacturing — where benchmarks are set by a global FMCG giant and measured against them. It carried into the hotel, where a five-star brand's guest experience rests entirely in the hands of the asset owner. Across every vertical, LVIL treats quality as an ownership responsibility — not a vendor contract.
02
Relationships are built for decades, not transactions.
A 100 -year relationship with ITC Limited is not a contractual arrangement. It is the product of thousands of individual moments of reliability — deliveries made on time, standards upheld under pressure, commitments honoured when they were inconvenient. Trust of that depth cannot be manufactured. It is accumulated, slowly, over decades.
"LVIL believes that enduring businesses are built on enduring relationships — with partners, people, institutions, and communities."
03
Capital must be patient, disciplined, and asset-backed.
LVIL does not diversify for appearance. It does not enter sectors because they are fashionable, or exit them when they become difficult. Every vertical in the group's portfolio was chosen because it had a durable physical asset, a clear operating thesis, and a long-term value creation opportunity that was structural, not cyclical.
The 55-acre Solvex campus is not a financial holding. It is a living industrial platform. The hotel is not a real estate play. It is a forty-year-old operating institution in a city where demand for premium hospitality is still forming. The solar plant is not a CSR gesture. It is a strategic infrastructure decision that will compound value over the next twenty years.
"LVIL allocates capital with patience and discipline — backing durable assets where structural demand, operational excellence, and long-term ownership can compound value across generations."
HOW WE INVEST
01
Quality is never outsourced.
LVIL backs assets that can endure — not ideas that depend on market momentum or the confidence of any single moment. A factory, a campus, a hotel with forty years of operating history: these are durable. Trend-dependent businesses are not.
02
Is the market direction structurally positive?
LVIL invests where long-term demand is forming — even before it becomes fully visible. The group backed Aurangabad's hospitality potential in 1984, when it was not obvious. It entered Dewas's soybean belt in 1994, when edible oil demand was still developing. Structural foresight is the advantage.
03
Can LVIL improve the asset through operating discipline?
The group's advantage is not just capital. It is attention — ownership-level attention to process, people, and performance. Solvex tripled in capacity not because the market gave it — but because the team earned it through disciplined execution. The hotel expanded from 136 to 228 rooms in twelve months for the same reason.
04
Does the investment protect the downside?
Strong physical asset value. Credible partners. Established demand. Strategic location. Predictable cash flows. LVIL does not invest in businesses where the floor is undefined. Every investment must have a defensible position even in adverse conditions.
05
Can it compound across generations?
This is the ultimate test. The investment must strengthen the group's credibility, asset base, operating capability, or strategic position — not just for this generation, but for the one that follows. Every business LVIL owns today was chosen with this question in mind.
WHERE WE OPERATE
Mumbai, Maharashtra
Headquarters & manufacturing
36/40, Mahalaxmi Bridge Arcade, Mumbai. The group's corporate nerve centre and the original site of Master Tobacco Company. Strategic governance, financial oversight, and the ITC relationship are managed from here.
Dewas, Madhya Pradesh
Laxmi Solvex
55-acre campus in Durgapur, Dewas. Adjacent to the National Mumbai–Agra Highway. India's soybean heartland, with excellent road and rail connectivity to supply chains across the country. This location was not a compromise — it was a precise industrial decision.
Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Maharashtra
WelcomHotel
228-room five-star hotel at the crossroads of Maharashtra's industrial corridors and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Waluj, Shendra, and Chikalthana MIDC zones generate corporate demand. Ellora and Ajanta generate leisure demand. LVIL has held the premier position in this market for forty years.
Nashik-Sinnar, Maharashtra
Solar energy
2 MWp open-access solar plant, commissioned in 2024. Located to serve hotel energy requirements via Maharashtra's open-access grid framework. The site represents LVIL's first deliberate infrastructure step toward the group's 75% renewable energy target by July 2026.
